Over the years, the Gallery of Hong Kong Art School has opened its doors for students and alumni to apply and curate their own exhibitions. In the past May, the Gallery has invited alumni, students and external parties to gather at the alumni exhibition. The alumni exhibition continues this year, titled “The Inner Power”, enabling alumni to express themselves in various media and to share about their creativity.
Their unique point of view in aesthetics brought them to different creative pathways while producing their exhibiting works. However, their mutual understanding is that art and its creative process could surface the inner-self and call upon their souls, reflecting the society as a mirror, and making a stand with their views.
Within almost thirty pieces of works, some contrasted the power of nature with the weakness of human life. Some highlighted the organic souls in man-kind within life-less technology. Personality is what makes common themes different, under the hands of artists.
Human-kind has been exploring the value of existence since long ago, and art has been walking parallel with the consciousness of the society. Technology has almost overrun our lives while we are searching our ways through art. Participating artists have been trying to find a balancing point between themselves and the external world, by exploring the power within.
香港藝術學院藝廊多年來讓學生和校友申請，並由他們親自籌辦策劃展覽。去年五月，藝廊藉著校友聯展，邀請校友、學生與外界聚首交流。承接去年的正面回響，學院藝廊今年繼續誠意邀請歷屆校友參與今次The Inner Power展覽；讓校友以不同媒介的創作與大眾分享、探討他們潛藏多年的創作力。
各參展者持著各自的美學觀念，從不同的出發點創作不同形式作品去滿足個人對於自我或是傳達訊息的創作需要。他們皆抱著一些相同的感受，覺得藝術和藝術創作過程能顯露人的內在內心，可喚醒各自的靈魂；作品正反映著他們對身處社會的狀態，是一些訴說與及一些需求的表明。
從差不多三十件作品中，部份參展者借助作品去勾畫出永恆的時間和大自然的力量相對於人生的短暫，然而這是自古以來人類都需要迎接與面對；部份作品亦帶出現今先進科技的快與冷，相對於人性心靈，我們需要爭取才可以好好聚焦與感受周圍美妙事情與事物，而通過藝術可讓其個性發揮；即使是老生常談的題材，當配合各自的藝術語言去創作，又即自成一格。
長久以來，人類藉著創作去探索對於自身存在的意義與價值之迷思，藝術隨著人類發展的需要及當時當地的人民精神而衍生。時至今日，現代科技、熾熱經濟與自身扯上揮不去的關係，虛擬網絡世界令人再次質疑與反醒存在的真實性；生活上往往遇上强烈的荒誕感，人皆尋找自處方法。今次展覽的一群創作者，通過藝術展示個人的獨特性，在那流轉的藝術循環大世界中努力不懈，探索自身價值之餘，更利用藝術創作去了解身處的世界，尋找人與事和大自然相互間的平衡點，尋回自己最重要的人生元素，而這是你我皆有的潛在力，需要自我開展。
